SHAUN GLADWELL SELECTED BY AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL FOR AFGHANISTAN COMMISSION

Shaun Gladwell has been announced as the commissioned artist for the Australian War Memorial 2009 War Artist Scheme. Gladwell will work for one month with the Australian Defence Force in Afghanistan and continue to produce work over the next year based on these experiences.
Shaun Gladwell has previously engaged with issues of conflict, specifically through a portrait of his father: Mark Gladwell, Contact Scan (2009), exhibited at NAM BANG!, Casula Powerhouse.
Additionally he has produced a book cover for the British artist Fiona Banner’s book work, The Nam (1998).
The announcement comes after critical acclaim for Gladwell's participation in the 53rd Venice Biennale. Gladwell recently opened his first UK solo show SEVEN YEAR LINEWORK, Spacex, Exeter.
