Melbourne Art Fair 2004 Anna Schwartz Gallery Stand Number 2 Royal Exhibition Buildings Carlton Gardens In 2004, I asked Justin Clemens, a Melbourne writer, who lectures in literature and psychoanalysis at Deakin University, if he would write a series of essay questions, that summarise some of the 'Burning Issues' surrounding Contemporary Art. These essay topics form the basis for “Art School.” The works are an attempt to embody shared concerns that captivate contemporary artists, curators and critics; they outline many of the dominant ideas that students are taught at art school and also describe some of the battle lines that exist between proponents and detractors of Contemporary Art.
