Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre presents Onside, as part of the Women In Sport initiative which examines the complex issues relating to women and sport through an arts and cultural lens. The artists’ treatment of sensitive subjects that have not yet been significantly explored by a contemporary arts venue will make this a landmark exhibition.
Artworks referencing gender stereotyping, sexualisation of women’s bodies and notions of femininity will engage audiences to think more deeply about a range of ideas and will provide an entry point into contemporary art. The artists approach the topical and relevant themes in innovative and engaging ways with the intention of opening up a broader discussion about these issues.
Artists include: Nicole Breedon, Lauren Brincat, David Caird, Montalbetti + Campbell, Tarryn Gill and Pilar Mata Dupont, Angela Ellsworth, Jenny Evans, Lorrie Graham, Ponch Hawkes, Sahlan Hayes, Petrina Hicks, Deborah Kelly, Laresa Kosloff, Richard Lewer, Belinda Mason, David Moore, Louise Paramor, Elvis Richardson, Nick Selenitsch, Robin Sellick, Toni Wilkinson and Anne Zahalka.
9 February to 24 March

Work by Lauren Brincat features in The Wandering: Moving images from the MCA Collection.
The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is developing a touring exhibition of video works from the MCA Collection, curated by Isabel Hesketh. The Wandering: Moving images from the MCA Collection will introduce audiences to a selection of works by some of Australia’s most significant artists working with the video medium, including Lauren Brincat. The exhibition will provide venues with the opportunity to present a curated program of video without the need to source technical equipment or adapt existing gallery spaces. Artworks will be loaded on to a hard-drive which will be housed in one crate along with the projector and speakers.
The exhibition will be accompanied by an e-publication. Details on venues to come in 2013.

'Contemporary Australia: Women' celebrates the role of women artist in Australian art. The new and recent work on display explores themes such as the idea that one performs femininity or performs as a woman; the place of personal and intimate spheres - such as sexuality, the body, motherhood and ageing; the return to everyday and domestic materials; and the way some women artists are redressing the canon of painting.
Exhibition dates: 21 April - 22 July 2012
